Based on resolver’s experience to date, if you want to close your account it is best to do so in writing. All companies that offer online video streaming that require you to register a credit or debit card, charge you by means of a recurring payment. If you close your account, you must also ensure you cancel any recurring payment at the same time, or you may continue to be charged for the service.

Recurring payments take the money from you credit or debit account in much the same way as a direct debit. However, unlike direct debit payments, which you can request your bank to cancel, they are not as easy to cancel. You are still legally entitled to cancel the recurring payment, and to do so you need to write to the video streaming provider.
