You should know

If you want to pay with plastic, but don’t want a debit or credit card, a prepaid bank card might be the right option. There are many different cards out there, and they can be particularly useful for young people and holidaymakers.

The Money Advice Service provides a useful, in-depth guide to pre-paid cards.

If things go wrong, use Resolver to raise the issue with the card provider. If the provider fails to resolve your concerns, you will have the right to take your compaint to an Alternative Dispute Resolution scheme. Many prepaid card providers are based in the UK and so you will be able to complain to the Financial Ombudsman Service. If the provider is based somewhere else (usually in Gibraltar), Resolver will guide you and help you to contact the right organisation, such as the Financial Services Commission in Gibraltar.
