Based on resolver’s experience to date, there is no actual liability attaching to gyms as to left items unless it is due to negligence on the part of the gym, but your first action should be to contact the gym directly to find out whether the item has been retrieved.
Any notices limiting the gyms responsibility for lost, stolen or damaged items must be prominently displayed. Most gyms will keep lost items in a lost property box for up to three months. Also check your insurance documents thoroughly and contact your insurer as soon as possible – most standard policies cover lost or stolen property, though the maximum is very limited (usually about £500 per item).
If you need assistance with this matter, resolver recommends that you submit your concern in writing and resolver can assist you in submitting, recording and reminding you when and who to escalate to.
